KUSADASI SAMOS FERRY DEPARTURES
ISLAND of PYTHAGORAS
One of the busiest sea routes linking Turkey to Greece in the eastern Aegean, the Kusadasi to Samos crossing spans just 20 nautical miles (37 km) across the narrow Mycale Strait, with a journey time of approximately one hour. Ferries depart from Kusadasi harbour and run daily services to Samos island's two main ports — the capital Vathy in the northeast and historic Pythagorion on the southern coast.
The route has been operated by Meander Feribot since 1977. The season runs daily from April through the end of October; in November and December, weekend-only crossings are offered to Vathy. One-way adult fares start from €37.
Pythagorion is a compact UNESCO World Heritage harbour town, ideal for day-trippers with ancient ruins, waterfront tavernas, and the nearby Tunnel of Eupalinos all within walking distance. Vathy is the island's capital and main port; with its neoclassical architecture, archaeological museum, and onward connections to the northern beaches and villages, it makes the natural starting point for a longer Samos getaway.
For this international crossing between Turkey and Greece, all passengers must carry a valid passport or EU national ID card; Turkish citizens may also travel under the Visa Express programme or with a valid Schengen visa. As border processing can extend during peak summer months, arriving at Kusadasi port at least one hour before departure is recommended.
